It’s the first day of fall and what better way to celebrate than to catch some of the scenic views the season provides? Fortunately for us Minnesotans, we host 67 state parks that boast gorgeous colors and the weather can’t be beat this time of year.
Afton State Park in Hastings
In addition to native grasses and leaves turning colors, you will also find bluebirds and monarch butterflies throughout the prairie of Afton State Park. Don’t panic if your fall is already busy, you still have a few weeks until the leaves are at their peak colors.
Banning State Park in Sandstone
For immediate fall scenes, head up to Banning State Park as the colors are changing quickly. For hikers, visit the Quarry Loop Trail for scenic views of Hells Gate Rapids.
If hiking isn’t your thing, take a scenic drive through the charming small towns of Henderson, New Ulm, and Montevideo along the Minnesota River Valley. Stop at any of the apple orchards while you’re there to top off your fall day!
Chain of Lakes in Minneapolis
If you’re looking to stay in the Twin Cities, simply take a stroll around any of the tree-lined Minneapolis lakes. You’ll get the gorgeous fall colors with a skyline backdrop for a perfect afternoon.
