Spring Yard Clean Up

Whether you realize it or not, curb appeal is an important part of your home. Landscaping and outdoor finishes make a huge difference and can help add value to your home if and when you decide to sell. Unlike a new coat of paint, landscaping can take time to plan and implement. Here is a list of some ideas that you can potentially add to your spring list of things to do to freshen up your home.

Landscaping

Adding flower baskets or container plants to a porch, entryway, deck or patio adds color to your home. Concentrate on the areas where guests enter and exit the home as well as any outside entertaining areas.

Adding a new layer of mulch makes plants and shrubs contrast and pop. It also makes gardens and flower beds look clean and tidy.

Shape any overgrown trees or shrubs. We found an online guide on pruning that might help if you are a gardening novice or need some expert advice.

Other Ideas

Power washing patios, decks and even portions of your home can make a big difference and restore surfaces. If you don’t own one, you can rent it at a home improvement store fairly inexpensively.

To ensure there is adequate lighting at the doors, patios and/or decks you can add small lights to brighten things up. Now there are many options that are solar-powered! Many home improvement stores have these lights that are fairly easy to install. Most landscape companies also offer light installation if you are looking for something a little more dramatic.

Staining or sealing a deck can not only make the deck look better, but help it last for years to come.
