Second Harvest Heartland

Team Lucky Duck got the chance to volunteer this month at Second Harvest Heartland. We spent a morning sorting onions and re-packing them into 5 pound bags for distribution to over 1,000 local partners including food shelves and meal sites. In fact, two other groups we have volunteered with this year, 360 Communities and Loaves and Fishes, receive some of the food they use from Second Harvest Heartland.

In the 2 and half hours that we were there, we packed 9,070 lbs of food. That is enough for 7,558 meals. That means each volunteer packed 126 meals during their visit.

Second Harvest Heartland is the second largest food bank in the US.  It serves all of Minnesota and western Wisconsin. They have two locations in the Twin Cities area. We visited the Golden Valley location. It was inspiring to see the information below about what the organization is doing for our communities in the Upper Midwest.

It was a great day to give back to our community and to connect some of the volunteer projects we have been working on this winter. We’d love to volunteer at an organization that you support. Please reach out to us if you know of a program that could use our help.
